Who is John?.

John Q. Martin

I have been working with technology for nearly twenty years now. Starting in a LAN Gaming cafe back in the early 2000’s on the weekends playing Counter Strike and Unreal Tournament with customers, through the many years of working with Microsoft technolgies focused on SQL Server and Azure. I have been involved in the UK SQL Server/Data Platform community for longer than I can remember. Starting as an attendee to the usergroups hosted out of Microsoft TVP Building 3 in Reading, attending my first SQL Bits conference at number four in Manchester, starting my speaking journey at the Southampton user group which led to many great friendships and sharing knowledge with people.

My main technolgoy interests are data, cloud infrastructure, and security. I have worked with many different database systems including SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Redshift, and others over the years. I was lucky enough to spend time working for Microsoft as a PFE and latterly at AWS as a solution architect working with Redshift PoCs. All of which gave me a great appreciation for the different ways to use the various database engines, their strengths and weaknesses. From a personal interest perspective in technology I am interested in IoT and hope to build out some interesting little projects which I will look to blog about and share code for.

In this blog I hope to continue sharing things that I learn and will be useful in the future, mainly for me as a knowledgebase but open in case anyone else finds somethign useful.

If you want to connect with me, please feel free to send me an invite on LinkedIn or follow me on GitHub using the links in the profile or at the bottom of this page.
